Job Description

Summary

This per diem job involves using ultrasound equipment to create images of patients' hearts to help diagnose heart conditions, working with people of all ages from newborns to the elderly in a busy hospital setting.

You'll handle various types of heart scans, maintain the machines, and prepare reports for doctors.

Key Requirements

The County of Riverside's Echocardiology Department at Riverside University Health System's Medical Center seeks a Per Diem Cardiac Sonographer to join our team located in Moreno Valley. The Cardiac Sonographer will perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures in accordance with physician orders. The incumbent will conduct echocardiographic studies on patients ranging in age from premature newborns to geriatric individuals. Responsibilities include performing a variety of cardio echo procedures, including but not limited to transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), and cardiac stress echocardiograms.

The Cardio Sonographer is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images, preparing accurate records and reports and operating, adjusting and maintaining specialized sonographic imaging equipment.

The most competitive candidates will possess one year of sonographic technology experience comparable to an acute care facility within the past five years. Possession of a valid registration as a Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is preferred.

Schedule:
Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., based on the operational needs of the department. Weekend shifts may be required as needed.

Requirements

• Make patient appointments for the RUHS Diagnostic Services Unit in accordance with RUHS policies and procedures; serve as a resource to other faculty departments, onsite clinics and other healthcare providers regarding patient appointments for services.

• Perform transthoracic echocardiography, including regular, contrast and Dobutamine types, as a separate procedure in conjunction with Cardiac Stress Testing procedures to aid in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease or abnormalities; select the appropriate transducers for the specific examination; select and store images for diagnosis by the cardiology staff; assist the cardiology staff with performing the above testing procedures as required.

• Demonstrate customer service; establish and promote positive interpersonal relations; function within the team concept with the patient as the focus; greet, interact, offer assistance, answer questions, provide information regarding programs and services, explain testing procedures, and witness informed consent.

• Prepare preliminary reports as determined by the cardiology staff; review images obtained and stored, and final reports with cardiology staff; prepare final reports for inclusion in the patient's medical record using available report generation hardware and software; maintain retrievable records of studies done using appropriate storage media.

• Perform procedures; set up patient and equipment; assess and monitor patient throughout exercise stress and pharmacologic stress testing; deliver age-specific patient care while considering factors related to the safe and effective use of technology and resources; inspect and adjust malfunctioning electro-diagnostic equipment to restore it to use or notifying supervisor of needed repairs.

• Assist lead personnel with monitoring and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of service and office supplies; maintain a clean and organized work environment.

• Evaluate new products, techniques and equipment for possible future use; participate in developing new techniques and procedures; prepare protocols and instructional materials for new equipment and techniques based upon the manufacturer's manual and specifications for approval by management.

Qualifications

OPTION I

Education: Successful completion of a Cardiac Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or completion of cardiovascular sonography education from an institution accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).

OPTION II

Experience: Two years of full-time experience in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Technology (Echocardiography) supervised by a Cardiologist in an acute care setting.

ALL OPTIONS

Knowledge of: The principles, techniques, and methods applicable to the specific specialty area; the operation, adjustment and care of sonographic imaging equipment; federal, state and local laws and regulations governing sonography.

Ability to: Understand and follow detailed instructions; learn and understand how to operate equipment; deal effectively with and understand the various types and conditions of patients; produce quality images; prepare records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, nurses, patients, and co-workers.

Other Requirements

Certificate: Possession of a current, valid certificate as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) issued by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

OR

Possession of a current, valid certificate as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
