Job Purpose:

This internship supports the Business Services Division of the South Carolina Department of Commerce by contributing to small-scale projects, assisting with the coordination of virtual and in-person events, and providing operational support in the areas of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database management, research, and reporting.

The intern may work across any of the Division's program areas, including Existing Industry, Recycling, Trade, Supplier Outreach, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Emergency Management, Portfolio Accounts/Grants and Industry Liaison, under the direction of Division leadership.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist division teams (Recycling, Supplier Outreach, Small Business, Innovation, Existing Industry, Trade, Emergency Management) with small projects, including but not limited to preparing information and research materials, compiling results, creating and maintaining PowerPoint presentations, creation of documents.
  • Input information and maintain DOC's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.
  • Assist with planning or coordinating meetings or events as needed.
  • Assist staff with communications with partners inside and outside the division.
  • Take notes during meetings; type documents, drafts, and reports; sort and manage files; other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

Qualifications

Students of any major, both graduate and undergraduate, are encouraged to apply.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

  • Strong academic credentials, with a background in business, supply chain, marketing, and/or sales.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Office.
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management software preferred.
  • Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.

Additional Information

This position offers flexible scheduling, including the opportunity to work up to 37.5 hours per week during the summer.
