Full Job Description
The Utah State Office of Rehabilitation is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to fill the position of Business Relations Technician with the Business Relations Team, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is an in-office position, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The individual in this role will support and assist the business relations team working with business and community partners as well as the statewide Vocational Rehabilitation offices. This position is often public facing both in office and in the community. The Return Utah program is a formal career reentry program, designated for Utahns desiring to re-enter the workforce after a career break.
Along with a state job and traditional on-the-job training, Return Utah roles provide 16-weeks of transitional support (similar to an internship) which includes an office technology review, coaching, career development, mentorship, networking opportunities and job market readiness training.
To be eligible for this return-to-work opportunity candidates:
Must have a career break of one year or more at the time of application
(unless the candidate is affiliated with the military in any way including as a military spouse/partner), or
Demonstrate underemployed at the time of application
and
Have prior professional/life experience in a functional area of interest
This is a long term position, meaning employment continues after transitional support provided during the first 16 weeks of employment, after the completion of the Return Utah program.
Principal DutiesThe Business Relations Technician performs the following tasks:
- Answer phone calls and emails from employers and partners, serving as the main contact for questions and referrals.
- Gather, enter, and track statewide Business Relations data into case management systems, including employer contacts, participation, and services provided.
- Manage job lead email communications, including employer outreach, contact updates, job postings, referrals, and public information.
- Help with outreach and engagement activities that promote employment for people with disabilities.
- Assist with Social Security reimbursement claims; must be able to pass a SSA background check.
- Provide front desk coverage and general administrative support for staff.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, workshops, and travel, and prepare meeting notes.
- Maintain records and databases by scanning, uploading, and organizing documents.
- Support office operations such as purchasing, invoice processing, inventory tracking, and managing equipment and supplies, in line with state requirements.
- Send client surveys and provide assistance with sensitivity, empathy, and professionalism.
Minimum RequirementsThe model applicant for this position is someone who:
- Proficiency with word processing and automated software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, Google Workspace, and similar programs.
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
- Ability to pass a Social Security background check.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
