Summary

The Behavioral Site Director oversees a team providing psychiatric and therapeutic care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at a regional center in Grand Junction, Colorado.

This role involves managing staff, developing treatment programs, handling budgets, and ensuring compliance with regulations while responding to emergencies.

About Grand Junction Regional Center:

Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) is one of three Regional Centers in Colorado that serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have intensive needs.

GJRC, which dates back to 1919, has both Intermediate Care Facilities/Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD) homes and Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBS Waiver) homes throughout the community.

The center serves a diverse population, from people who have high abilities but are a high risk to themselves or others to people who have significant medical challenges.

Programs are individualized to meet varying needs. Services provided range from residential services and health services to mental health intervention. GJRC provides day program, vocational and specialized habilitation, speech, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation and nutritional services.

Requirements

The Behavioral Site Director leads, coordinates, and manages the operations of a multi-disciplinary psychiatric treatment team, ensuring high-quality care, compliance with state and federal regulations, and efficient use of resources. This role provides direct supervision to staff, develops clinical programs, manages budgets, and serves as an administrative representative during emergencies.

Additionally, as a Behavioral Site Director, you can expect to:

- Provide formal supervision to staff, including hiring, training, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and resolving grievances.
- Direct staff resources to ensure effective delivery of psychological and therapeutic services.
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance, compliance, and adherence to regulations and policies.
- Develop, implement, and oversee clinical treatment programs consistent with standards of care.
- Ensure patients receive comprehensive, well-balanced treatment across multiple therapeutic approaches.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and outside agencies to support patient recovery and continuity of care.
- Participate in agency-wide policy development and strategic planning.
- Manage departmental budget, monitor expenditures, and make purchasing decisions within fiscal rules.
- Act as Approving Official for purchasing processes and ensure audit compliance.
- May serve in an on-call capacity to respond to emergencies, conduct safety assessments, and support crisis or after-hours needs as needed
- Coordinate crisis response with external agencies (law enforcement, mental health centers) when needed.
- Role-model professional communication, create a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure stewardship of public resources.


This is a hybrid position. Minimum 4 days in the office and maximum 1 day of remote work. Regular schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Specific remote day to be arranged upon hire. This position will comply with the Grand Junction Regional Center’s current working arrangements. Please note: Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

Additional Information: This position does not include any billable-hour requirements for behavioral service support, allowing the Behavioral Site Director to focus on leadership, quality oversight, and team development.

Qualifications

Experience Only:
  • Eight (8) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

OR

Education and Experience:
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to eight (8) years

Substitutions: Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in counseling, psychology, social work or behavior analysis.

  • Two (2) years of directly supervised experience developing and implementing behavioral support plans utilizing established approaches, including Applied Behavioral Analysis or Positive Behavioral Supports that are consistent with best practice and research on effectiveness for individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Current, valid licensure as a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, BCBA Certification, or equivalent license or certification.

  • Full background check: CDHS employees (all direct contact with vulnerable persons): CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers) and reference check required
  • This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application (unless otherwise identified in the posting), and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
  • Motor Vehicle Check , if the employee will drive a state-owned vehicle, either in an on-going capacity while performing their normal day-to-day job duties OR on occasion for training/meetings/client visits/etc.
  • Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or an non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border
  • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Travel – Drive state car, van or bussette to various group homes, programming, admin & in community
  • TB test is required, requires Influenza and other vaccines as required by state and facility; must be 18 years or older.
  • Pre-employment Physical/Tests – Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:
    1. Disclose that information on the application.
    2. Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.
    3. Provide your employee number from your prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.



CDHS Selection Process Explanation

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
