This position is in the Alaska Vocational Technical Teacher's Unit (AVTECTA).


What You Will Be Doing:
Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC), a Division of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, is recruiting for a dynamic and social Career Advisor who delivers career readiness instruction and counseling to prepare graduates for employment aligned with their training. This position teaches job search strategies, resume development, and interview skills, and ensures students develop and carry out actionable employment plans. You will serve as a primary point of contact between students, instructors, and employers by establishing and maintaining relationships with industry partners across Alaska and demonstrating knowledge of workforce trends, occupational requirements and employer expectations. This role is accountable for executing and reporting placement and follow-up processes and data. Success in this position requires initiative, strong organization, and consistent follow-through in managing student career readiness, employer relationships, data, and placement outcomes.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to start on or after July 1, 2026.

Requirements

Four years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field.

OR SUBSTITUTION:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the applicable field;
AND
Two years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field;
AND
Two years professional experience developing, coordinating, and presenting adult training or vocational education programs.

OR SUBSTITUTION:
An industry recognized professional certification in the applicable field;
AND
Two years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field;
AND
Two years professional experience developing, coordinating, and presenting adult training or vocational education programs.

Special Note:
Positions in the AVTEC Instructor job class require expertise in a particular vocational field such as the culinary arts, business or office technology, applied technology, information technology, maritime operations or safety, medical services, construction, or the trades. The required training or experience for each position is unique to the assigned field of instruction. Recruitment and selection for these positions will be from among only those candidates who have the appropriate specialty background identified in the recruitment bulletin.
