General Responsibility
Under the supervision of the Aviation Lieutenant, Tactical Operations Captain, or acting supervisor, operate as an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic on all aircraft owned and operated by the Division. Perform all facets of daily, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on SLED's helicopters. Maintain proficiency with Airframe and Powerplant certification on all aircraft maintenance in accordance with the FARs.

Specific Duties

Perform Maintenance Duties: Perform all maintenance of aircraft, inspect and repair aircraft parts, components and systems.

Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft, aircraft systems and parts for SLED. Clean and maintain interior and exterior of aircraft.

Coordinate aircraft maintenance schedules with assistance from the Aviation Lieutenant. Maintain upkeep of work area, materials and tools.

  • Provide Aviation Support: Assist other state and local law enforcement aviation units if able on a limited basis through individual knowledge base and hands on application at the discretion of the Aviation Lieutenant and/or the Tactical Operations Captain, Assistant Chief or Chief of SLED.
  • Report Information: Be clear and concise in oral and written communication. SPIC will demonstrate appropriate knowledge and expertise in reports/maintenance log preparation.
  • Perform Administrative and Written Maintenance Tasks: Update and maintain maintenance manuals, service bulletins, administrative directives (AD's), parts books and other technical directives.

    Coordinate ordering, shipping, receiving of parts, supplies, tools, and warranty claims at the discretion of the Aviation Lieutenant. All aircraft maintenance logs will be completed by this individual.

    Support Program Areas: Perform various support tasks relating to programmatic duties such as the DCE/SP (Marijuana Eradication Program), Specialized Training i.e.

    MD Helicopter Maintenance certifications or any other duties that would support the Aviation Maintenance Program at SLED, the Aviation Lieutenant and the Tactical Operations Captain.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
    • Must possess an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification for at least five (5) years, with an Inspector Authorization (IA) Certification with no enforcement actions pending.
    • Must be certified in the Rolls Royce 250-C20B engine.
    • Must possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a helicopter mechanic.
    • Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience with Rolls Royce 250 series C20-B turbine engine repair.
    • Must be able to perform maintenance, including: troubleshooting airframe, engine, and electrical systems, replacing engines, transmissions, and other components as necessary.
    • Must be able to use calibrated, hand, and specialized tools.
    • Must have a valid driver's license.
    • Position requires non-standard working hours and individual must be able to respond to non-routine situations in a logical and professional manner.

    Qualifications

    MD 500E mechanic is preferred
