This internship requires a commitment of 20 hours weekly (4 hours per day), with a flexible schedule to accommodate the intern's academic commitments. This position is located at 2600 Temple Ave, Long Beach, CA 90806.
The Department of Financial Management is seeking an Automotive Mechanic Intern in the Fleet Services Bureau, Maintenance Division. This six-month, paid internship offers an excellent opportunity for students actively enrolled in an automotive trade school or automotive technology program to acquire practical skills. Interns will primarily support the Maintenance's division's daily operations but may also be placed according to the Bureau's needs and the intern's qualifications, potentially working across various Fleet divisions.

This internship requires a commitment of 20 hours weekly (4 hours per day), with a flexible schedule to accommodate the intern's academic commitments. This position is located at 2600 Temple Ave, Long Beach, CA 90806.

This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in the same grade and classification.

Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12-month period, and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.

Requirements

Supplies motor vehicles with gas, oil, air and water.Performs safety inspections on city vehicle under supervision.Makes minor repairs and adjustments under supervision.Replaces light bulbs and fuses.Examines, charges and replaces batteries.Repairs tires and tubes under supervision.Cleans and washes vehicles.Cleans shop areas and repairs equipment.Assists mechanics and other skilled trades persons on assigned jobs.Observes safety rules and regulations.May open and close shop work orders using computerized Fleet Management system.May assist in lien sales and property disposal procedures.Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Current enrollment in an automotive trade school or automotive technology program (Proof Required*).Required documents, such as resume, cover letter, and proof of enrollment must be uploaded to the online application in PDF format at the time of filing.
