This job is for an entry-level helper in an auto hobby shop on a U.S.
Air Force base in Italy, where you'll assist experienced mechanics with basic vehicle repairs like changing spark plugs or belts under close supervision.
It's a flexible, part-time role with no guaranteed hours, ideal for someone with basic mechanical know-how from school or hands-on experience who wants to support military operations overseas.
A good fit would be a reliable U.S. or NATO citizen already stationed at the base, comfortable with physical work and following safety rules.
About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and is located at the 31 Force Support Squadron, Auto Hobby Shop, Aviano AB, Italy.
This position is involved in assisting a journey worker (automotive mechanic) by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the trade and working with the journeyman as instructed.
This is not a formal apprentice program. This is a Flexible (Intermittent) position; guaranteed 0-40 hours per week; depending on the needs of the facility Who May Apply: Open to everyone.

In accordance with the Status of Forces agreement between Italy and the US, you must be at Aviano AB on orders and be a US citizen or citizen of a NATO country with a US permanent resident card.
Italian citizens may not apply for US NAF positions; however, may be eligible for local national positions on base. Must be able to provide documentation proving residence status overseas.
Legal US residents must possess a social security number and be citizens of a NATO country. The 31ST Force Support Squadron is not currently providing logistical support.
Applicants must provide proper documentation indicating they are already a supported member of Aviano AB.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: A basic knowledge of automotive repair such as could be gained at the high school or trade school level. Ability to use standard and metric automotive hand and powered tools.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle. A driver's license is required.
Must be physically able to frequently lift, handle and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally, with assistance, objects weighing up to and over 40pounds.
Must be able to frequently stand, bend, stoop, crawl, and work in tight spaces for long periods of time. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre employment physical.
This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing Major Duties:
Assists automotive mechanics in performance of maintenance and repair on all combustion powered vehicles. Helps with repairs that can be accomplished by removing. replacing, adjusting.
or cleaning defective pans or components such as fouled spark plugs, worn brake shoes, water pumps, engine gaskets belts and hoses, etc.
Under the direct supervision of the automotive mechanic or higher grade worker, removes and replaces with standard parts, items such as spark plugs, fan belts, starters, carburetors, fuel pumps, water pumps, mufflers, tail pipes, etc.
Assists in making settings and adjustments such as setting distributor and voltage regulator points, gaping spark plugs, setting engine idle and time, and taking up on brakes.
Observes environmental, safety, and security rules and regulations. Keeps shop in orderly condition. Cleans shop area, as required, or requests patrons to tidy up their own work areas.
Issues parts and tools and accounts for same. Scheduled tour of duty will require evenings, weekends, and holiday work hours. Performs other related duties as assigned.
