Key Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including road tests and preparing vehicles for use or auction

Requirements

As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following job duties:

  • annual state inspections for safety and emissions on state vehicles,

  • inspection repairs to ensure compliance with state regulations, road tests, and completes inspection stickers and related records.

  • preventative maintenance jobs on both gas & diesel units such as tune-ups, tires changes, transmission services, coolant flushes, air/fuel filters, and oil changes per manufacturer & PSP maintenance recommendations.

  • advanced vehicle diagnosis on all vehicle components including but not limited to: Drivetrain, steering, suspension, brakes, computers, HVAC, fuel systems, emissions, etc.

  • check for and performs PCM (computer), TCM, & Module updates as needed.

  • prepare new vehicles for department use, and higher mileage vehicles for reassignment.

  • prepares unserviceable vehicles for auction.

  • repair and replacement of suspension components such as ball joints, control arms, idler arms, Pitman arms, wheel bearings, etc.

  • repair and replacement of brake systems, disc brakes, drum brakes, calipers, cylinders, fittings, etc.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.


Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be in possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
