Job Description

Summary

This job involves conducting audits of housing developments, management companies, and other partners funded by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority to check if they follow rules and if their financial reports make sense.

Auditors prepare reports with financial details, suggestions, and reviews to support fair housing for underserved groups.

It's a good fit for detail-oriented people with accounting or finance backgrounds who enjoy investigative work and want to contribute to equitable housing in Michigan.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester credits in accounting (or related fields like finance, economics, or data analytics for certain positions)
  • For Auditor 9: No specific experience required
  • For Auditor 10: One year of professional auditing experience in accounting, financial, or operations records
  • For Auditor 11: Two years of auditing experience, including one year at Auditor 10 level
  • For Auditor 12: Three years of auditing experience, including one year at Auditor 11 level
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification can substitute for one year of experience
  • Must work in Lansing office for first 6 months for training

To audit MSHDA financed developments, management agents, mortgagors, and other stakeholders that conduct business with MSHDA.

The primary purposes of these audits are to determine compliance with prescribed requirements and determine the reasonableness of the financial information submitted to MSHDA.

These audits result in the issuance of an audit report that may include financial statements, recommendations and analyses.

Requirements

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

Experience

Auditor 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Auditor 10
One year of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor 9.

Auditor P11
Two years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor 10.

Auditor 12
Three years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor P11.

Qualifications

Alternate Education and Experience

Auditor 9 - 12

Possession of a bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: finance, economics, information systems, business analytics, data analytics, statistics, quantitative methods, data science, or management may be substituted for the education for agency positions responsible for internal auditing or Office of Auditor General positions responsible for auditing.

Possession of a Certified Internal Auditor certification or a Certified Information System Auditor certification may be substituted for one year of experience at the P11 level for positions responsible for internal auditing.

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of experience at the P11 level.

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Auditor experience.

Based on operational needs, hybrid remote work and alternate work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Please note that weekly onsite work will be required. Work must be performed in the state of Michigan.
