Under direction of the General Counsel, perform advanced, complex legal work as principal attorney in the human resources areas.

Specific areas of responsibility include: Develop agency policy, handbooks and manuals, research relative legal areas; track court opinions and legal developments in human resources, employment law, and related areas; review Commission policy and make necessary recommendations for policy revisions based on developments in case law; develop training programs for agency management and employees in areas mandated by workplace policies; research and handle grievances and other employment issues impacting the agency; represent the Commission in administrative litigation; serve as EEO coordinator and privacy officer; coordinate staff resources for workplace programs such as workers’ compensation, EEO and ADA; and serve as source of advice for administrative staff in daily operations.

Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

Training: Admission to practice law in the State of West Virginia.

Experience: Five years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid employment in the practice of law.
Substitution: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid employment as an attorney with the agency to which assigned shall be considered the equivalent of two years of experience.
