Job Description
Summary
This role involves planning, delivering, and evaluating specialized nursing care training for people with disabilities, their representatives, and caregivers through the University of South Carolina's Center for Disability Resources.
The nurse will assess and certify participants for self-directed care options and ensure attendants can provide safe, personalized support.
It's ideal for a registered nurse with experience in public health or long-term care who enjoys independent work, training others, and serving communities in rural South Carolina areas.
Key Requirements
- Registered Nurse with preferred qualifications: Master's in nursing, or Bachelor's in nursing plus 2 years experience, or diploma from accredited nursing school plus 3 years experience
- Experience working with people with disabilities, children with chronic physical health conditions, or aging/elderly in public health, hospital, or long-term care settings
- Ability to provide individualized and group training to participants, representatives, and attendants
- OSHA bloodborne pathogen training certification
- Strong organizational skills to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks independently while handling stress and maintaining confidentiality
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities, with capacity to exercise judgment in applying policies ethically
- Willingness to travel and serve counties including Berkeley, Charleston, Hilton Head, Summerville, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, Jasper, and Beaufort; telecommuting position with state vehicle provided

Advertised Job Summary
To participate in planning and implementing and evaluating health services in specialized nursing care areas for training and certification for the Attendant Care Project with the Center for Disability Resources, University of South Carolina, School of Medicine. Will evaluate and certify participants or representatives for self-directed care or representative-directed care and to evaluate attendants’ ability to provide safe and participant-specific care. Provide training as appropriate. This position is established in support of service/training activities
Requirements
• Capable of providing individualized training for the participants, representatives and attendants. Must be capable of providing group training.
• Must meet OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogen training.
• This position serves Berkely, Charleston, Hilton Head, Summerville, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, Jasper, Beaufort counties of South Carolina.
• A state vehicle is provided.
• This is a telecommuting position.
• Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to USC /SCDHHS compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.
• Ability to think clearly, logically, and solve unexpected problems.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public.
• Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.

Qualifications
• Master’s degree in nursing, or Bachelor’s degree in nursing and 2 years’ experience. Or diploma from an accredited school of nursing and 3 years’ experience.
• Experience as a registered nurse in public health, hospital, or long-term care setting working with people with disabilities, children with chronic physical health conditions, and/or who are aging/elderly.
