This role involves helping run a correctional facility by supporting the head warden in managing daily operations, programs, and staff, especially in areas like mental health and compliance with rules against inmate abuse.
It requires stepping up to lead when the warden is away and handling tasks like writing reports and coordinating visits.

Under limited supervision, serves as one of two Associate Wardens to the Institutional Warden and assumes his/her responsibilities in the Warden's absence.
Assists the Warden in planning, direction, and coordination of all activities, programs, and operations of the Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center.
Perform duties governed by broad instructions in accordance with established policies, and functions in the area where decision making is critical due to constantly changing conditions and problems.
Serves as the PREA Compliance Manager.
Supervises a multitude of program areas which includes a large segment of mental health programs
Interprets laws, policies, and operational procedures.
Corresponds with inmates and persons in public and private segments of society.
Prepares (writes) reports, studies, recommendations pertaining to operations and proposed changes in laws, rules, regulations, policies, and operations for submission to higher authority.
Coordinates tours as needed.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and ten (10) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, which must Include five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
A bachelor's degree may substitute for 4 years of overall experience.
Associate degree may substitute for 2 years of overall experience.
No substitutions for supervisory experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
