This job is for an assistant to the head of a correctional facility focused on helping inmates prepare for release, where you'll help manage daily operations like security, staff training, and inmate programs.
You'll step in for the boss when needed and ensure everything runs safely and smoothly.
It's a good fit for someone with strong leadership skills and experience in corrections or security who can handle high-pressure situations and work on call.
Under general supervision of the Warden,
incumbent will assist in the daily planning and coordination of all operations and program areas of the institution to include, but not limited to, classification, human resources, education, food service, commissary/laundry, and security at Manning.
Assumes responsibilities of the Warden in the Warden's absence.
Serves as on-call official on rotating basis.
Supervises, Inspects and ensures proper security and control measures are in effect and enforced.
Ensure proper control, issue and use of weapons, keys, security devices and agency equipment.
Ensures institutional Buildings and state property are properly secured.
Trains, develops, Instructs, evaluates and counsels subordinates to ensure performance of duty in accordance with state laws and agency policies.
Interviews and counsels inmates as necessary to ensure maximum safety and security.
Prepare reports, studies, regulations and policies for submission to higher authority.
Correspond with inmates and public/private parties.
On call employee.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high diploma and ten (10) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, which must include five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
A bachelor's degree may substitute for 4 years of overall experience.
Associate degree may substitute for 2 years of overall experience.
No substitutions for supervisory experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
