Hennepin Health is seeking an Associate Medical Director to provide clinical leadership and essential operational support within the Medical Administration Department. The Associate Medical Director works closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Clinical Services to oversee clinical services and ensure high-quality, cost-effective care for health plan members. This role supports medical management functions, conducts utilization reviews, participates in policy development, and quality improvement initiatives. This position will assume chief medical officer responsibilities for interim periods as needed.

Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Health Services Building, 525 Portland Avenue South, 8th floor, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. up to 30 hours per week. There may be opportunities for clinic practice at the NorthPoint Clinic, Hennepin County Public Health Clinical Services, or Hennepin Healthcare. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will: - Conduct medical necessity reviews for pharmacy and medical prior authorization requests, appeals, and restricted recipient cases.
- Participate in utilization review, complex case review, and appeal review processes.
- Serve on and contribute to committees including credentialing, pharmacy & therapeutics, drug utilization review, technology assessment, and quality management.
- Lead a team of three pharmacists and one pharmacy technician conducting medical reviews.
- Draft and review assessments of new medical technologies and approval criteria for medications requiring prior authorization.
- Participate in internal meetings to align services and decisions within an interdisciplinary team.
- Create and update annual quality work plans and evaluations.
Need to have:- Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree.
- Completion of an approved internship and an approved formal adult or child residency in a medical specialty is required.
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the State of Minnesota.
Nice to have: - Board certification as a physician.
- Five or more years of clinical experience, including supervisory experience in healthcare or insurance settings.
- Experience:
- In managed care, health maintenance organizations, and/or health insurance-related environments.
- With pharmaceutical procurement, pharmacy benefit managers, and/or pharmaceutical management.
- Ability to:
- Manage a professional team to achieve goal-oriented results.
- Work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of utilization management, quality improvement, and medical policy development.
