This job involves working as an engineer for the City of Jacksonville's Planning and Development Department, where you'll design and oversee municipal construction projects like infrastructure and site maintenance, while coordinating with agencies and inspecting sites to ensure everything meets standards.

Designs civil engineering/site infrastructure and maintenance construction projects.Performs professional engineering calculations.Prepares and obtains permits.Conducts pre-bid conferences and advisory meetings to develop bid terms, conditions and specifications.
Submits projects for bid process.Consults with state and local agencies and utility companies on project designs.Compiles data prepares monthly reports, and makes oral presentations on design and construction projects.Inspects construction sites to determine conformance to design specifications.Writes inspection reports for compliance with design specifications.Operates a motor vehicle to conduct field inspections.Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.Performs related work as required.
Qualifications Ability to plan, design, implement and manage construction and related projects.Ability to perform necessary engineering and construction cost estimating calculations.
General knowledge of construction procedures.Ability to apply engineering principles and methods.Ability to draft bid specifications, and gather and evaluate bid data.Ability to field inspections at project sites and construction sites to gather design information or determine conformance to design specifications.Ability to interpret, review and/or prepare technical reports.Ability to perform professional engineering calculations.Ability to communicate effectively, including developing and presenting information.Ability to read, write and speak English.Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Additional Information A six-year combination of education, training, and experience in civil engineering with roadway, drainage, and site design projects, ANDA degree from an (EAC/ABET or EAC/M?
ABET), Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc., accredited engineering curriculum of four years or more in a discipline pertinent to the position being filled.
OREight years responsible engineering experience, three years of which must be pertinent to the position.
Must have passed either Part I or Part II of the Florida Board of Professional Engineer examination.LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: A valid Florida Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification is required prior to appointment and must be maintained. OTHER REQUIREMENTS:The probationary period for this class is six months.
