Summary

training locations throughout the state.

About Team Local Government Support:

The Local Government Support (LGS) Team offers a unique opportunity for team members to participate in a variety of functions and duties.

The team is responsible for the GAAP and Cash Budgeting, Accounting and Reporting System (BARS) Manuals, the Annual Report Filing System, nearly 600 assessment audits, the compilation and quality control review of audit reports, and financial statement and ACFR reviews.

Team LGS also serves as the agency expert on topics related to accounting, budgeting, and reporting for both GAAP and cash reporting local governments.

LGS members provide technical accounting services for the Office.

Within the agency, LGS members support government transparency and accountability, foster collaboration across teams, and promote the Office’s mission and values, and a professional, respectful, and constructive work environment.

With external parties, LGS members present a positive, professional image, and represent the Office’s interests and mission.

Requirements

Assessment audits are fully remote and provide an exciting opportunity for you to perform all aspects of the audit process for our smallest local governments.

You will plan, review, make audit recommendations to management, exit, prepare audit reports, and more, all through virtual means.

You will also get to learn, expand, and/or enhance your knowledge of several SAO systems.

This is a great opportunity to sharpen your audit efficiency skills as these audits have budgets between 1 hour to 30 hours.

The Assessment Audit Team is a fun group to work with and learn from!

As an LGS Assessment Team Auditor, you will perform assessment audits under minimal supervision from the Assistant Audit Manager. This position will serve as the Auditor or Auditor-In-Charge for all assigned audits. Required duties of this role include:

  • Planning and conducting audits of Washington State’s smallest local governments.
  • Preparation of accurate and complete documentation of the work performed on assigned audits.
  • Making recommendations for levels of reporting to LGS Audit Management.
  • Provide clear and open communication with audit clients via email, phone, and/or virtual meetings.
  • Developing a positive and effective working relationship with audit clients and LGS Team Members.
  • May support other LGS team members by assisting with team projects and/or agency-wide special projects.


Assistant State Auditor 1 ($4,320 - $5,812)
This is the first level of our in-training program for staff with little audit experience. The Office provides classes, on-the-job training time, and work product review and feedback to assist new auditors in gaining skills to move to the next level. Most work is completed in the field at the governmental entity, with employees working in teams.

Assistant State Auditor 2 ($5,011 - $6.735)
In this second level of our in-training program, auditors continue to build upon the experience they gained through work as an Assistant State Auditor 1, our Internship program, or comparable work at another organization. At this level, employees may to be assigned opportunities to plan and conduct audits under the guidance of their supervisor.

Assistant State Auditor 3 ($6,259 - $8,415)
This is the journey level of our Assistant State Auditor series. Staff at this level are responsible for planning and conducting risk-based financial & legal compliance, audits of Washington State agencies and local governments. They may also perform special investigations pertaining to citizen concerns and/or frauds. Journey level auditors review the work and provide mentoring to in-training level staff.

Qualifications

This is a temporary transfer opportunity for an ASA 1, 2, or 3.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience using sound judgment, problem solving skills and making recommendations on complex issues.
  • Demonstrated professional maturity, innovation and initiative.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work well in groups.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards and Governmental Accounting Standards.

This position will report to the Local Government Support Assistant Audit Manager for Assessment Audits.
