Full Job Description

This position is being filled as a College Graduate under Public Law 115-232, 5 CFR § 315.614 Recent graduates who completed a bachelors or graduate degree within the previous 2 years.

Uniformed service members who completed a bachelors or graduate degree and were unable to apply within 2 years of obtaining their degree due to uniformed service obligation of at least 4 years, may apply within 2 years of discharge from uniformed service.

Open to the first 75 applicants or until 4/16/2026. ELIGIBILITY: Recent College Graduate This appointment will be made under the noncompetitive College Graduate hiring authority.

To be eligible an applicant must have received a bachelor's or advanced degree ( i.e. master's, Ph.D., or J.D) within 2 years of applying for employment under this authority.

For these purposes, the graduate must have received a baccalaureate or advanced from an institution of higher education in accordance with section 101(a) of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as codified at 20 U.S.C.

1001(a).

In the case of an applicant who has completed a period of no less than four years of intervening obligated uniform service, they must apply within than two years of release or discharged from that uniformed service.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/16/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).

If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

Applicants must meet the BASIC REQUIREMENT FIRST and then meet the GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENT. Basic Requirement (must be met first):A.

Bachelor's degree in archival science OR bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts.

Evaluation of experience: Professional experience must have been in archival science, or in a directly related field of work such as history that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values.

The following are illustrative of kinds of experience that may be accepted as meeting the professional experience requirements: (1) experience as an archivist in Federal, state, religious institution, business, or other archives, or in manuscript depositories, and (2) experience of an archival nature that involved research in archival science, or in a directly related field such as history, government, economics, political science, international relations, or international law.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07, you must possess one of the following qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).

Specialized experience includes performing archivist duties for the management and preservation of archival and manuscript collections within park museum programs or similar operations, which involve the application of professional archival or museum standards to process and preserve records and collections.

You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successfully completed 1 year of graduate level education.

Education must be in a related major and/or classes as described above under basic requirement. Graduate level education must be directly related to the position being filled.

You must include transcripts.

-OR- Have completed a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree and meet the criteria for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) as evidenced by one of the three following methods: I am in the upper third of my graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR I have a GPA 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR I am a member in one of the national scholastic honor societies.

You must meet the education requirements as outlined under the basic education requirement. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience.

The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

For example, I have six months of the specialized experience (50 percent of the experience requirement), and 9 semester hours of appropriate directly related graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement).

To qualify for this position at the GS-09, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).

Specialized experience includes performing archivist duties for the management and preservation of archival and manuscript collections within park museum programs or similar operations, which involve the application of professional archival or museum standards to process and preserve records and collections; Evaluating records, archival, and manuscript collections; Utilizing Federal Records Management guidelines; Managing museum and archival collections with standard professional procedures, including accessioning, cataloging, researching provenance; Performing basic preservation or conservation on collections, rehousing collections, monitoring environment in collection spaces, creating finding aids for collections.

-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's equivalent degree.

Education must be in a related major and/or classes as described above under basic requirement. Graduate level education must be directly related to the position being filled.

You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.

For example, I have six months of the specialized experience (50 percent of the experience requirement), and 9 semester hours (only graduate education beyond the first 18 semester hours is qualifying) of appropriate directly related graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement).

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

Manages and preserves park archival and manuscript collections within NPS Museum Collection and Records Management guidelines.

Accessions appropriate collections into the park museum collection, research provenance, writes descriptions and finding aids to provide access.

Manages archival work and physical and virtual reference service areas, including the park library, for researcher access and use of collections in person and online.

In consultation with the supervisor, surveys park records in all park structures, identifies historical records, determining which materials are inactive for disposal.

Assists in monitoring and maintaining the environment for collections, including the housekeeping and integrated pest management programs.

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level (of GS-09).
