Summary

This job involves designing and managing building projects for Marine Corps facilities, including planning layouts, ensuring designs meet safety and environmental standards, and overseeing work with engineers and contractors.

Key Requirements

  • Proficiency in all aspects of architectural design, including programming, space planning, concept development, and sustainable design
  • Experience as a Design Manager providing technical oversight on multidisciplinary projects
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Ability to coordinate with engineering disciplines for Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) projects

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing all aspects of architectural design for a wide variety of installation shore facility types, to include architectural programming, space planning, concept design development, sustainable design, design analyses, compliance with codes and standards, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and other required services; AND as a Design Manager performing technical management and oversight on execution of multidisciplinary design projects Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/architecture-series-0808/ Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will provide timely, professional architectural products, services, and consultations for planning, design, construction, and maintenance, of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported commands.
  • You will coordinate the architectural design with the engineering disciplines for Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) projects to ensure overall compatibility and efficiency of the site and building design.
  • You will conduct site investigation field trips to project sites, as required, to collect all pertinent data and refine or develop project scope by inspection of existing conditions and though meeting with the sponsoring and using activities.
  • You will plan and lead project design conferences/work sessions and on-site design charrettes/Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD) with stakeholders to determine project requirements and to develop concept designs.
  • You will perform quality assurance reviews of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by design firms.
  • You will provide post construction award services (PCAS), including review and approval of contractor's submittals for conformance with the requirements of the contract drawings and specifications.
