The City of Norfolk Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring for an Aquatics Training and Evaluation Specialist to assist with the management of daily operations of aquatics facilities by performing a variety of administrative tasks related to aquatics and safety certifications, training, audits, and inspections. This position assists with the development of policies and procedures while participating and conducting mandatory trainings.

The City of Norfolk Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring for an Aquatics Recreation Activities Instructor to assist with the management of daily operations of aquatics facilities by performing a variety of administrative tasks related to aquatics and safety certifications, training, audits, and inspections. This position assists with the development of policies and procedures while participating and conducting mandatory trainings.

Department Hourly Range: $16.00 - $20.00

Requirements

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Instructs classes and assists with the management of aquatic programs by performing a variety of administrative tasks related to aquatic programs, registration and facility reception duties.
  • Administers various programs and tools utilized for certifications, training, and instruction.
  • Collects, verifies, and maintains records and information.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of aquatic programs.
  • Reads and prepares written reports, correspondence, memos, technical manuals, periodicals and related information.
  • Completes all required paperwork
  • Participate in aquatic staff mandatory physical trainings and maintains all required skills to successfully complete required job-related certifications.
  • Maintains all required job-related certifications.

Qualifications

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Six months experience.


Preferred candidates will possess:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certificate (within first six months of employment if not currently certified)

Possess one or more of the following certifications:

  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certificate
  • Current Water Fitness Instructor Certification

Additional Information

Work Location: Various Aquatic Centers and beaches within the City of Norfolk

Work Hours: Sunday through Saturday. Hours vary, flexible schedule required. This is a part-time position not to exceed 30 hours working 4-to-6-hour shifts.
