Job Description

Summary

This job involves investigating reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation against vulnerable adults in Weber County, Utah, by assessing needs, documenting findings, and recommending support to help resolve risks.

It's a hybrid role with some office time, remote work, and travel within the state.

A good fit would be someone compassionate with a background in social services who enjoys advocating for older adults or those with disabilities.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Family & Human Development, Criminal Justice, Gerontology, or related field (preferred for Caseworker I)
  • Social Service Worker license or equivalent in Utah (required for Caseworker II)
  • At least 6 months experience as a case manager or investigator
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques for abuse, neglect, and exploitation
  • Ability to assess client needs, vulnerability, and capacity
  • Comfortable with in-state travel and hybrid work (office and remote)

APS Investigator (Caseworker I/II)

If you feel strongly about advocacy for vulnerable adults, this job is for you!!!


The Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is looking for an APS Caseworker I or II for the Weber County and surrounding areas.

The APS Caseworker provides adult protection services (APS) by investigating and assessing allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation on vulnerable adults, and documenting investigative findings and client progress toward risk resolution.

This position requires in-state travel as part of the normal workload.

This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days and it will serve Weber County. The employee may also be required to attend DAAS/DHHS events.

The State of Utah requires all employees to physically work inside the State of Utah Boundaries.

Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.


This job may be filled at either of the levels listed below

Caseworker I: A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Family & Human Development, Criminal Justice, Gerontology or a closely related experience is preferred. This employee will operate under close and regularly provided professional supervision.

Caseworker I (Range $18.77-$28.16)


Caseworker II: Requires a Social Service Worker license or a closely related license in the State of Utah. This employee will be fully trained and exercise independent judgment and discretion and assess human service needs for elder adults and/or people with disabilities.

Caseworker II (Range $20.89-$31.41)



Principal Duties

The Caseworker I/II:

  • Assesses client needs

  • Investigates abuse, exploitation, and/or neglect referrals

  • Recommends appropriate care or intervention

  • Documents client progress

  • Complete assessments for clients regarding vulnerability and capacity
  • Support Weber County and surrounding areas (when needed)
  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires in-state travel as part of the normal workload.


The Ideal Candidate

  • Has at least 6 months employment as a case manager or investigator
  • Knows investigative techniques

        • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.

        • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work..
