Advertised Job Summary

the University of South Carolina Division of IT is looking for a highly organized and collaborative Release Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and execution of software releases across our environments.

In this role, you’ll be the central point of communication between development, QA, and operations—ensuring smooth, timely, and low-risk deployments.

What You’ll Do

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate software releases across development, testing, and production environments

• Manage and maintain release calendars and deployment timelines

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless delivery

• Identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful releases

• Support system upgrades, patches, and release-related activities

• Maintain documentation for release processes, procedures, and standards

• Communicate release status, updates, and issues to stakeholders and leadership

What You Bring

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience

• 2+ years of relevant experience in release management or similar roles

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in release management or equivalent

• Strong communication and organizational skills

Skills & Expertise

• Solid understanding of Release Management processes

• Experience with job scheduling, batch processing, application administration, and automation tools

• Familiarity with ITIL service management practices (incident, problem, change, and release management)

• Experience with ServiceNow (preferred)

• Ability to coordinate across multiple teams and manage competing priorities

• Strong documentation and process management skills

• Effective communicator with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in release management or equivalent

• Strong communication and organizational skills

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Strong understanding of Release Management processes.

• Strong understanding of job scheduling, batch processing, application administration and automation tools.

• Familiarity with ITIL service management processes (incident, problem, change, and release management). ServiceNow experience preferred.

• Ability to communicate with team members, customers and leadership for daily activities.

• Ability to coordinate scheduling across multi-functional teams to meet deadlines and deliverables.

• Ability to maintain documentation on processes and procedures.
