This job is for a nurse practitioner who will focus on managing heart rhythm issues and remote monitoring of cardiac devices for veterans, working at a VA facility in Columbia, Missouri.
It involves providing advanced, evidence-based care through teamwork and leadership to improve patient health.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan payment reimbursement program.

Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Basic Requirements Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
(Applicants pending the completion of educational requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until the education requirements are met.) Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
NOTE: Foreign Education.
Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs, the nurse practitioner degree equivalency must be validated through an Agency recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency, such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
Candidates with equivalent nurse practitioner masters or doctorate level degrees who possess current, full, active, and unrestricted registration and certification will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant appointment.
License - All APN (NPs) must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Basic Board Certification - All APN (NPs) must maintain full and current basic board certification in one of the following: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), or Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP) from one of the following: the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), or other nationally recognized certifying body in the area in which the Nurse Practitioner is academically prepared.
NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and an APN (NP) assignment that are also performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.
The following Scope, Education and Experience, and Dimension criteria must be met to qualify for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) II: Exception to Licensure for Graduate Nurse Technicians.
Candidates who otherwise meet the basic requirements, but do not possess the required licensure and/or certification, may be appointed at the entry step of the Nurse II, as a Graduate Nurse Technician - Nurse Practitioner on a temporary appointment up to any period not-to-exceed one year and a day under the authority of 38 U.S.C.
§ 405(c)(2)(B).

Education and Experience Requirement: Meets basic education requirement for an APN (NP) AND one year of specialized APN (NP) experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level.
Dimension Requirement: APN (Nurse Practitioners) at grade III are expected to meet the following dimension requirements: Clinical Practice.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Cardiology Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission.
The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.
The Remote Device Management Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical management for Veterans with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) through remote monitoring and virtual care.
The NP independently assesses and manages device-related alerts and patient clinical needs, coordinates care with Electrophysiology/Cardiology teams, and ensures high-quality, timely, evidence-based interventions that improve access, safety, and outcomes.
The NP practices to the full extent of their education, training, and certification. Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position.
The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position.
FUNCTIONS OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients.
Major duties and responsibilities of the position but not limited to: 1) Remote CIED Alert Triage and Clinical Management - Independently managing a panel of patients with arrhythmias and cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), including pacemakers, ICDs, and loop recorders - Reviews, prioritizes, and clinically acts on remote monitoring transmissions for Veterans with pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, and implantable loop recorders (as applicable).
- Evaluates alerts such as atrial fibrillation/flutter burden, ventricular arrhythmias, shocks/ATP therapies, lead integrity issues, battery status/ERI/EOL, sensing/pacing abnormalities, and connectivity/monitoring gaps.
- Conducts focused clinical assessments (telehealth/video/phone), determines urgency, initiates evidence-based interventions, and escalates to EP/Cardiology when indicated.
- Documents clinical interpretation, plan, and follow-up requirements in the electronic health record (e.g., CPRS/Cerner) using standardized templates and service workflows.
- Monitoring and responding to alerts from the National Cardiac Device Monitoring Program EP specific duties: The EP advanced nurse practitioner will participate in and/or manage all aspects of a general Cardiology program, to include clinical, administrative, academic, and research components if warranted.
Assist during peri-operative period for electrophysiology procedures including catheter ablations, diagnostic EP studies, and implantation and follow-up of pacemakers, ICDs, and cardiac resynchronization devices in accordance with VA protocols.
Provide consultative and longitudinal care for inpatient and outpatient veterans with arrhythmias, in collaboration with EP, cardiologists, primary care physician and other VA healthcare team members.
Assist in the management of cardiac devices and work closely with National device surveillance program and EP team Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and align with VA healthcare system goals.
Providing clinical consultation to Harry S Truman VAMC clinical staff. Patient caseload may be inpatient, outpatient, or both.
May work with primary care physicians on a consulting basis when a patient has symptoms that suggest a cardiac issue.
Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care. Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation.
