QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of animals' characteristics, needs and behavior, and skill in observing, handling and caring for animals.

Able to follow complex instructions, ability to maintain records. Ability to inspect or lead the work of others. Experience MUST be clearly listed on your Resume in order to receive consideration.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as a working leader of three or more employees in accomplishing animal caretaker work. The highest non-supervisory work led is Animal Caretaker NA-5048-05.
  • Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, assigning immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led.
  • Checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines, and urges or advises other employees to follow the instructions and to meet deadlines.
  • Works along with other workers, setting the pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led. Insures that needed equipment, supplies, and materials are available.
  • Obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall operations. Performs other duties as assigned.
