Summary

This job involves developing and updating software applications using .NET technologies to support wildlife conservation efforts for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting

for an Analyst/Programmer 2, 3, or 4 located in Anchorage, Juneau, or Palmer, Alaska!

The working conditions you can expect:

This position is located in Alaska, and you will have an office at an Alaska Department of Fish and Game building in the location of your hire. Telework options may be available at the supervisor’s discretion, based on job responsibilities, performance, and operational needs.

  • Requires occasional travel within the State (normally one trip of up to 3 days length occurring once a year).


Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an individual with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • .NET experience (ASP.NET MVC, .NET Core, C#, REST APIs, Entity Framework) preferred. Equivalent experience in another tech stack with a willingness to learn .NET will also be considered.
  • Database Skills – Strong understanding of relational databases and experience optimizing queries.
  • Security Awareness – Understands secure coding practices, data protection, and keeping our systems (and wildlife data) safe.
  • Legacy Tech Comfort – Not afraid of older systems (Web Forms, WCF, ColdFusion, or whatever else might lurk in the codebase).
  • Problem-Solving Mindset – If "it has always been that way" doesn’t sit right with you, we want you on our team.

One year of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of the experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer system user support specialty.

Substitution:

A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for all of the required experience.

An associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience.

Special Note:

An applicant who is considered under the Substitution above qualifies to apply for this job class IF the applicable coursework is completed within three (3) months of hire.

Under this option, an applicant may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Individual positions at each level in this class series may require expertise in a particular area of programming or analysis. Recruitment and selection will be on the basis of these requirements.

For some positions in these job classes, a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
