This job involves helping people with alcohol and drug issues by assessing their needs, creating treatment plans, providing counseling, and managing cases in a government health program.
It also includes screening applicants for benefits and educating groups on substance use.
A good fit would be someone with counseling experience in addiction, strong communication skills, and a passion for supporting recovery in community settings.
Conducts alcohol and drug use screening for food stamps and temporary cash assistant applicants.Interviews and evaluates new clients with complex problems relating to alcohol and other drug use.Provides case management services to a active caseload.Conducts assessments and screenings.Prepares all necessary forms and reports for the case/medical record.Monitors dually diagnosed clients and makes referrals to mental health providers as appropriate.Conducts substance use educational programs for clients and other interested parties.Conducts required assessments for referred individuals.Provides individual counseling for complex cases as needed.Participates in staff conferences and serves as a member of the treatment team.Maintains medical records and files, including reports of client activities.
Recommends and arranges referrals when necessary.Examples of Other DutiesRepresents the program at meetings.Performs other related duties as required.(NOTE: The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class.

Qualifications Required QualificationsPossession of a valid Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD) certificate, ora Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CPC-AD) certificate,ora Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) certificate,ora Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) certificate issued by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.This position will be stationed at a local department of Social Service's office.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD) certificate, a Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CPC-AD) certificate, a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) certificate, or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) certificate issued by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists is required at the time of application.Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license.All licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment.Proof of Licenses, Certifications and EducationApplicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position.

Physical and Environmental ConditionsThe work of this classification is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, standing, lifting or other restricted physical activity.
