What you will be doing:The Fairbanks International Airport (FAI), a division of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), is seeking an Airport Operations Officer to join our team and help Keep Alaska Moving!

The Airport Operations Officer works under the general direction of the Airport Operations Supervisor.

The Airport Operations Officer is responsible for monitoring, coordinating, and directing all daily land side and air side operational activities at the airport to ensure a safe environment for air operations.

Extensive knowledge of FAA and TSA regulations, security directives, advisory circulars, and experience in many different disciplines is required of the Airports Operations Officer.

Requirements

• Airport Operations: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, methods, and procedures of airfield, air terminal, commercial or general aviation, landside functions and operations, and security operations subject to FAA, TSA, state or military rules and regulations.
• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
• Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
• Personnel Security and Safety: Knowledge of methods and controls of personnel, public safety, and security operations; investigation and inspection techniques; or rules, regulations, precautions, and prevention techniques for the protection of people, data, or property.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional experience in aviation management, transportation, business administration, or public administration and/or monitoring, coordinating, and directing all daily landside and air side airport operational activities subject to FAA, TSA, state or military rules and regulations.

“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

Other Information

If an incumbent is required to use a firearm to assist in controlling wildlife hazards at the airport, he or she must be able to comply with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208).

Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is ineligible for appointment to a position that requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition.

Candidates for this class must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542), which requires fingerprinting and a background check.

Employees are subject to recall. Employees are required to possess a current Alaska driver's license. Employees may be required to maintain first aid certification.

AIRPORT SECURITY BADGECandidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check.

The successful applicant must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as well as a comprehensive background investigation, along with a Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment.
