Job Description

Summary

This job involves inspecting and maintaining a military airfield to keep it safe for aircraft operations, coordinating repairs and construction projects, and managing vehicle programs on the base.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Airfield Specialist in the Airfield Operations Division of NAVAL AIR WEAPONS STATION CHINA LAKE.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing daily airfield checks to include safety, Foreign Object Damage and equipment conditions on the airfield runways, taxiways, parking aprons, ramps, facilities and airfield lighting systems; 2) Coordinating corrective actions during unsafe conditions and makes recommendations to close the airfield until the safety risk is mitigated; and 3) Coordinating daily airfield construction and maintenance projects.

  • You will conduct daily airfield inspections to ensure the airfield is safe to conduct operations.
  • You will assist in coordinating airfield construction projects (e.g., pavement repairs, airfield lighting fixture replacements, etc) to ensure operations conform to established safety practices and procedures.
  • You will assist the Airfield Manager in management of the Airfield Vehicular Operator Program.
  • You will continuously monitor the operational status of the airfield and maintain vigilance over all conditions that affect or may affect its status.
  • You will coordinate parking for loading and servicing of aircraft with hazardous cargo or live armament handling.
