Full Job Description

This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TEMP-INDEF) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0735000 and is part of the AASF located in West Jordan UT, with the Utah Army National Guard.

IAW UTNGR 690-12 dated AUG 2022 and LIUNA-UTARNG CBA dated 11 OCT 2022, Priority will be given to all current, onboard employees of the UTARNG.

The selecting supervisor for this vacancy is CW4 JEREMY HOAGLAND. This is a TEMP-INDEF Appointment.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.

Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow.

Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

In addition to journey-level experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 grade level, positions at this grade level may include performing duties as a dedicated crew chief.

Other positions may include responsibility for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers.

Some positions may include coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft.

Other positions may include serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: Must have experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel.

Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.

Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes.

Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Major Duties:

The purpose of this position is to supervise workers, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders and/or supervisors, in accomplishing the operations of a distinct organizational unit and to perform associated nonsupervisory work.

The occupation and nonsupervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-11.

Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TEMP-INDEF) (TITLE 32), WS-8852-11, you will: Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations.

Establishes deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies. Determines skills, materials and equipment required to do the work.

Participates in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests.

Provides workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as the scheduling of projected work. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures.

Instructs subordinates on new procedures or methods and provides assistance on difficult or new problem areas. Reviews work in progress or on completion.

Makes adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work.

Notes and investigates work related problems and independently implements corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors.

Coordinates work with other units. Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedules and approves leave of subordinates.

Sets performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Adjusts informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives.

Works to achieve the objectives of Government-wide programs and policies, e.g., equal employment opportunity and labor management relations.

Promotes the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program, cost reduction program, etc.

Ensures that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed with appropriate protective clothing and equipment being utilized. Maintains production reports and records.

Periodically reviews position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy. Initiates the detailing of subordinates to positions other than their own.

Initiates or participates in review and improvement of work methods, organizational features, and the structuring of positions to eliminate unnecessary positions and achieve optimum content in those remaining.

Performs the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.

Performs other duties as assigned.
