Full Job Description

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.

In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to supervise as an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised, knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment, knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures, knowledge in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and/or test equipment, and the knowledge in troubleshooting, inspecting, and/or tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems.

2. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. 3.

Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. 4. Ability to implement sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures. 5.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 6. Knowledge and practical application of MIS (e.g. CAMS, GO-81) programs. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONT'D: 1.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements.

Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in UTAs.

The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 2.

Performs other related duties as assigned FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds). Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.). Hours of straight pulling are 1 hour per week.

Hours of pushing is 1 hour per week. Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 4 hours per week. Hours of standing are 10 hours per week.

Hours of crawling are 1 hour per week. Hours of kneeling are 1 hour per week Hours of repeated bending are 3 hours per week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required.

Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle may be required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.

Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception.

Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing (with or without aid). ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Outside and inside (other than normal commuting). Excessive noise, intermittent. Constant noise.

Electrical energy. Slippery or uneven walking surface. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Working closely with others.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

Major Duties:

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Sortie Generation Flight (SGF)Chief, exercising technical and administrative supervision over subordinate employees engaged in ground handling, servicing, inspection, condition evaluation, test and repair of assigned and transient aircraft.

Trains reservists in the duties and responsibilities set forth herein. DUTY 1: Performs work planning responsibilities.

Plans on a weekly or monthly basis the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials in an organizational segment or group.

Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors.

Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled byother supervisors. Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.

Redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work. DUTY 2: Performs work direction responsibilities.

Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.

Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes. Implements corrective actions within designated authority to resolve work problems.

Recommends solutions to staffing problems, engineering requirements, andwork operations directed by other supervisors. Reports possible or actual work delays to superiors.

DUTY 3: Performs administrative responsibilities. Directly supervises production of ARTs and any active duty maintenance personnel, if assigned.

Provides both technical and administrative supervision to all ARTs in SortieGeneration Flight.

Incumbent participates with various supervisors in performing specific personnel management responsibilities for Sortie Generation Flight maintenance production personnel possessing 8852 technical skills.Participates with employees in the development of performance plans and recommends them to supervisors.

Advises employees of performance expectations. Provides proper guidance and direction, continuous feedback on strengths and weaknesses.

DUTY 4: Applies Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Equal Opportunity Treatment (EOT) principles and requirements to all personnel management actions and decisions, and ensures all personnel are treated in a manner free of discrimination.

Takes positive action to implement affirmative action/EEO initiatives identified in the installation Affirmative Employment Plan.

DUTY 5: Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas.

Ensures employees with access to classified information comply with security directives. All known security violations are reported to the proper authority immediately when discovered.

Submits reports in accordance with reporting directives. Ensures safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations.

Any condition which might pose a hazard to safety or health is reported to the appropriate authority as soon as possible after detection.
