The Department of Environmental Protection is actively looking to hire an Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist.
This crucial role involves overseeing various ambient air monitoring initiatives, which include the maintenance and operation of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Air Monitoring System (COPAMS).
The specialist will be tasked with managing remote air monitoring devices, discrete samplers, and other essential instruments that are mandated by both the Federal and State Clean Air Acts.

If you are passionate about environmental protection and have the necessary skills, we encourage you to apply now!

In this position, you will be responsible for conducting bi-weekly automated precision checks on continuous analyzers, including those measuring SO2, NO2, O3, and CO.
This process involves injecting a known concentration of precision gas into the instruments to ensure that the data readings fall within acceptable parameters.
Additionally, you will perform preventive maintenance every two weeks at remote air monitoring stations to avert significant malfunctions of the instruments.
Your duties will also include troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and recalibrating the equipment as necessary.
Accurate documentation of calibration will be maintained by completing a Calibration Task on the Air Quality Portal.
Furthermore, you will carry out corrective actions by analyzing various symptoms and parameters such as voltages, flows, pressures, temperatures, and sounds.
The testing equipment you will utilize includes a voltmeter, certified temperature probe, barometer, flow transfer standard, and hand tools, along with schematic diagrams and vendor data sheets.
Your work will be crucial in ensuring that at least 75% of valid data is maintained across all air monitoring stations.
