Full Job Description

The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic assists journeyman level air conditioning mechanics and air conditioning operators in the daily operation, maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance of a large variety of HVAC and refrigeration equipment and systems.

Duties include work that is performed to repair and modify a variety of equipment and systems that achieve regulated climatic conditions or work concerned primarily with operating air conditioning systems for large buildings/complexes.

Must possess and maintain a current Type I and Type II Certification in Refrigerant Usage and Recovery.

The AC Equipment Mechanic's duties will include, but are not limited to the following: Incumbent has basic knowledge of the principles/theories of refrigeration cycle and temperature measurement.

Work involves installing, recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, and making repairs.

The incumbent is skilled in serving power supplies for the equipment serviced to include the tightening of connections, insulation of exposed wires and cleaning and lubricating parts.

Incumbent must be able to start, stop, and adjust all of the air conditioning equipment as needed in order to maintain required conditions of special areas such as labs and OR's.

Work on commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, cabinets, deep freezers, evaporative coolers and attic fans.

Incumbent must have Type I and II Certification in Refrigerant usage and recovery. Performs preventive maintenance inspections on HVAC systems.

Incumbent must be able to perform water chemistry test on HVAC systems to determine status of water treatment in both open and closed loop systems.

Assists with contractor requested shutdowns of the HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems during irregular tours of duty.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD70140A Physical Requirements: Handles and carries tools, equipment and testing devices rarely weighing over 50 pounds.

May use platforms or scaffolding equipment to repair hard to reach parts.

Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to heat, restricted ventilation and poor illumination in areas such as equipment rooms.

Incumbent is exposed to all weather conditions when working outside (Parking Areas, roof, etc.). Incumbent is exposed to various hazardous materials in the course of performing work assignments.

They are provided protective clothing, equipment, and safety devices for personal protection. The equipment rooms are above the allowable decibel rating and hearing protection is provided.

Hazardous gases are in the work environment during various tasks. Respiratory protection is provided for the incumbent.
