Full Job Description

As an AST, Aerospace Flight Systems (Senior Flight Lead) for the International Space Station (ISS) Program, you will be responsible for providing leadership and support in mission planning and integration for the ISS to ensure that technical and programmatic requirements are met.

You will also coordinate with commercial partners and international teams to resolve issues, manage risk, and achieve key milestones for safe and successful missions.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work.

The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Directing technical evaluation and operational requirements integration for spaceflight systems, launch vehicles, or payloads; Leading system-level problem resolution, developing analytical techniques and engineering recommendations; Coordinating and communicating technical and program data across multidisciplinary teams to meet mission timelines/objectives.

  • Serve as the ISS Program Flight Lead for commercial vehicle missions providing mission planning/execution support; representing the ISS Mission Management Team; and coordinating cross-program integration with ISS offices and international partners.
  • Support the Visiting Vehicle Integration Manager to track closure of spacecraft capability/interface requirements to the International Space Station (ISS), reviewing schedules, assessing recovery plans, resolving conflict, and driving deliverables.
  • Lead the closure of programmatic and technical issues related to flight unique spacecraft Design, Development, Test, and Evaluation (DDTE), cross-program integration, and the mission execution.
  • Provide programmatic leadership to manage risk and successful achievement of mission milestones, such as cargo integration, Vehicle Acceptance Review (VAR), Post Qualification Review (PQR), and launch, docking, and landing operations.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication to ISS and Commercial Crew Program leadership on spacecraft requirement closure, and variance/waiver progress and associated programmatic/technical issues and risks.
