The position is an Aeronautical Information Specialist in the Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV).
Responsible for serving as a recognized technical specialist for aeronautical information functions.
Provides advice to AOV management concerning the safety risks associated with airspace utilization, aeronautical, weather and flight information policies and procedures, criteria and waivers.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FV-I or GS/FG-13 level in the Federal service.

The Aeronautical Information Specialist performs multiple, varying and complex assignments under the limited direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist.
Considers the objectives of FAA LOB/SOs when developing, integrating, and implementing solutions to diverse, complex problems.
Assignments require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines on topics including data and information management, System Wide Information Management (SWIM), quality management system (QMS), competency management, and aeronautical, weather and flight information.
Applies experience and comprehensive technical knowledge of air navigation and operational information and the principles, techniques, methods, and regulations affecting navigation, to perform the evaluation, selection, and preparation of vital aeronautical data and information oversight activities as well as an understanding of new technologies and methodologies, including quality management principles, (i.e.
competency and training) to solve complex problems and develop improved technical processes or systems. Provides guidance to lower-level technical staff on how to solve difficult technical issues.
Resolves all but unique technical problems without the intervention of management or a more experienced technical specialist.
Conducts program analyses to validate quality assurance in management systems.
Provides oversight of, adherence to criteria, policy, and procedures for aeronautical data and information processed and disseminated, including delivery of information services through SWIM, and expansion into flight and meteorological data and information.
Typical assignments includes: extensive research and analysis, management and development of data and information standards, investigation and inspection activities, compliance and enforcement actions; and direct responsibility for projects/programs management.
Acts as a project manager or team leader for large work activities involving the planning, leading, conducting or participating in surveillance activities to measure and determine compliance with established FAA orders, rules, procedures and policies for the purpose of promoting continued operational safety around data and information management.
Develops data and information plans, techniques, and policies to address current or anticipated problems and issues. Works with management to solve problems.
Conducts program analysis to provide oversight of data and information processed while adhering to criteria, policy, and procedures for all aeronautical information products and services disseminated in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annexes 4, 10, 11, 14 and 15, related Procedures for Air Navigation Services (PANS) and US government orders and regulations.
Performs oversight of information management in both international and domestic forums.
Provides policy guidance and instruction to others, both internally and externally to support the oversight of information management (aeronautical, weather, flight) products and services.
Monitors and evaluates the processing of aeronautical data into information products and services, including the messaging systems used to produce aeronautical information services and products by the FAA and its partners.
Organizes and manages the organization's data and information from the collection of the data/information to distribution using aeronautical information products and services.
