About the Position: This position is located at Naval Health Clinic New England, Newport, Rhode Island. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Administers health care services in an outpatient setting in compliance with state and federal regulations and meets professional standards, including BUMED policies, and the requirements of designated regulatory agencies.
  • Evaluates patients with acute/minor and chronic illnesses, providing compassionate, competent care and follow-up.
  • Makes appropriate diagnosis based on history, physical exams, and appropriate laboratory and ancillary studies, as indicated.
  • Prescribes approved medications and other therapeutic agents.
  • Assesses individuals and develops a care plan based on physical and psycho-social status and on the needs of the patient.
  • Orders appropriate ancillary services, such as radiographs, electrocardiograms (EKGs),and other procedures.
