Summary

This job is for an experienced nurse practitioner working in a detention facility in Florence, Arizona, where you'll provide direct medical care to patients, handle emergencies, manage medications, and coordinate with healthcare teams.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess the following: EDUCATION: This position requires at least a Graduate or higher level degree in Nursing from an educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

You must submit an official transcript or unofficial transcript that clearly documents the courses completed, degree earned, and date awarded/conferred.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

LICENSURE: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination-RN.

In addition, you must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

AND Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: You must possess an unrestricted license or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

You must submit proof of licensure.

EXPERIENCE: GS-13: In addition to the mandatory education and license requirements, applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing duties such as: Providing direct, daily nursing care to patients; Coordinating health care needs of patients with healthcare team and coordinating referrals to off-site providers as required; Responding to emergency medical calls as assigned and provide emergency treatment of injury or illness; Ensuring that medications prescribed are administered as ordered, using the six (6) rights of medication administration; and Maintaining medical equipment and quality control of laboratory reagent, maintaining medical supply stock level, and assisting with ordering supplies.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Continuing Education: Continuing education requirements must be met as required for licensing and board certification maintenance, as applicable.

Work Schedule: You must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends, nights, holidays, or other times as directed.

Certifications: You must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider certification. This BLS certification must always be maintained in current status while performing services.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Major Duties:

As a Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-13, you will serve as a Nurse Practitioner at detention facilities staffed by the IHSC.

These sites provide medical, dental, and mental health care to detainees in ICE custody.

You will perform the following duties: Maintains compliance with IHSC policies and applicable standards while performing within scope of IHSC Clinical Guidelines, policies, and accreditation standards.

Performs comprehensive, age-specific and/or focused history and physical examinations, which may include gynecological and pediatric exams/procedures.

Evaluates and provides appropriate primary and urgent care to detainees within scope of practice/privileges.

Coordinates patient health care needs and referrals using a multi-disciplinary approach and with off-site providers as required.

Maintains patient/medical record confidentiality and according to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
