Job Description

Summary

This job is for a nurse practitioner working in a family medicine clinic at a U.S.

Army health facility in Japan, where you'll provide hands-on medical care, diagnose health issues, prescribe treatments, and educate patients and teams on wellness.

It's ideal for experienced nurses who enjoy working independently or with doctors in a military setting overseas and are comfortable with limited local healthcare options.

The role involves coordinating patient care plans and requires a strong background in pediatrics or family health.

Key Requirements

  • Graduate degree from an accredited nursing program in pediatrics or related specialty
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse and as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)
  • At least one year of professional nursing experience including diagnosing via tests, prescribing medications, providing patient education, and coordinating multidisciplinary care

About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Medicine, Family Medicine department of the Army Health Clinic BG Crawford Sams, Camp Zama, Japan.

Incumbent serves as a Nurse Practitioner providing independent and collaborative specialty care, comprehensive and therapeutic health care services.

Basic Requirement for Advance Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program in Pediatrics is required.

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program.

The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations.

A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required.

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Advanced Practice Nurse in the specialty of Nurse Practitioner or related specialty from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before.

Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes performing or interpreting results from screening, developmental tests, or laboratory tests to form a diagnosis or prescribe medication; providing care or wellness education to patients, family members, or other medical professionals or paraprofessionals; coordinating care plans with a multidisciplinary team; and evaluating care processes, operating procedures, or similar to identify areas of improvement.

This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Conduct collaborative care assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Perform comprehensive assessment of patients to include medical history, physical examinations, and more to form a diagnosis.
  • Order diagnostic or laboratory tests to prescribe medication and initiate emergency care as appropriate.
  • Provide counseling to patients and their families in prevention of illness, maintenance of health, and attainment of physical, mental, and social well-being.
  • Evaluate care delivery strategies to make recommendations to improve quality of care procedures and processes.
  • Serve as a preceptor to graduate students enrolled in nurse practitioner and physician assistant programs, medical students and to newly assigned nurse practitioners.
