Requirements

As a Adult Basic Education Teacher, Correction Education, you will provide adult basic education to inmate students.

You will pretest students for appropriate initial assessment and placement with the program's curriculum, adapt materials to meet the needs of students, and incorporate life skills.

You will also use a variety of teaching techniques and approaches to present materials, as well as write individualized lesson plans.

This role requires the ability to engage with students and foster an environment that allows them to to learn basic math, reading, English, science, social studies, language arts, writing, economics, applied technology, and career development.

In addition, you will conduct assessments for Adult Basic Education (ABE), Commonwealth Secondary Diploma (CSD), General Education Development (GED), English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), and other educational programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of paraprofessional experience assisting educational staff in a classroom setting that includes or is supplemented by one year of experience providing classroom instruction or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education; or
  • A bachelor's degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes or is supplemented by completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum, one year of experience providing classroom instruction, or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
