The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Administration, Bureau of Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council. is seeking an Administrative Assistant to join our team!

The Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council advocates for Iowans with disabilities so they can live and be part of their community. The Council is made up of volunteers appointed by the Governor.

This includes people with disabilities, family members, state government leaders, and other groups that advocate for people with disabilities.

We are seeking an Administrative Assistant to support our work and assist our council members.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Experience with financial and budget tracking
  • The ability to learn state contracting policies
  • Excellent people skills
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and with people with disabilities

This is a hybrid position working out of our Des Moines location. Telework may be an option for this position if requested by the employee and approved by management after a training period. Hours for the position are Monday -Friday 8:00-4:30.

Requirements

146 Disabilities 6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in one or in a combination of the following: • Deaf education • Deaf counseling • Special education • Intellectual disability • Disability counseling • Any experience dealing with the housing, transportation, accessibility, education, employment or advocacy for mentally or physically handicapped individuals.

OR

280 Human/Social Services Programs 6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both directly related to human/social services. Experience generally obtained from either some level of government organization or a non-profit organization delivering these services. Must demonstrate exposure to the basic concepts of human/social services and related policies and procedures. Programs include those traditionally under the purview of the Department of Human Services, such as but not limited to: • Child and family welfare • Medicaid • Entitlement programs • Income maintenance • Mental health • Development disabilities • Child support recovery

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any field.
  2. A total of four years of education (as described in number one) and/or full-time experience in accounting, secretarial, or office support work collecting, compiling, reporting, examining and/or editing numerical data; coding and qualifying people for benefits, licenses, or other transactions; preparing and keeping budgetary accounts and projections; organizing and implementing office support operations; advising on procedural processes; or other work that provided direct support and exposure to substantive agency programs, where one year of full-time experience is equal to 30 semester hours of education.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as a Secretary 2, Clerk Specialist, Public Service Supervisor, Accounting Technician (any level), Purchasing Assistant, or Human Resources Technical Assistant
