This position is in Driver Services / CDL Helpdesk, at SCDMV Headquarters, Blythewood, SC


Responsibilities of the CDL Help Desk Specialist III

  • Electronically transmit convictions and withdrawals to other jurisdictions on all out-of-state drivers who are CDL holders and/or the violation occurred in a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Review and process any errors, correcting them and resubmitting them to the SOR in a timely manner.
  • Assist with requests regarding CDLIS/PDPS from DMV offices, other states, and customers.
  • Assist customers by adding, modifying or deleting records in CDLIS and PDPS.
  • Research and perform CSORs when needed.
  • Provide accurate information to all customers and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Assist DMV's and customers with OOS, no results, or unique situations in Live Scan.
  • Verify CDLIS pointers, threat assessment pass dates, modify Live Scan Records by adding results of pass or failed, adding the pass date if applicable, and checking TSA for results.
  • Process reports for CDL holders or violations that occur in a CMV.
  • Print and review driver records for all drivers.
  • Perform SPEXS inquires on all drivers and add the drivers to CDLIS when appropriate.
  • Process daily reports to ensure data inconsistencies are corrected.
  • Review driver records for updated medical certificate.
  • Import medical certificates to a drivers record through the National Registry.
  • Send drivers correspondence letters for any errors or inconsistencies discovered with the drivers record or medical certificate.
  • Process DLN survey request completed by CDL holders.
  • Retrieve accurate information and add it to the driver history record.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisors and managers.
  • Assist others as needed.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public in disseminating and obtaining information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; grammatical rules clerical formats and/or journalistic principles.
  • Knowledge of behavioral characteristics of the physically or mentally challenged.
  • Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate and work well with others. Ability to plan, implement and evaluate effectiveness of administrative/clerical procedures.
  • Must be able to type and be proficient with PC. Must have knowledge of motor vehicles laws and regulations.
  • Works under general supervision. Routine and non-routine correspondence is completed by employee independently. Additional duties may be assigned as needed by the supervisor.
  • Ability to speak and hear with clarity, to bend and lift and must have good eye and hand coordination. Work is performed in a climate-controlled office setting with light background noise.

Qualifications

Agency Preferred:

  • A high school diploma plus two (2) years DMV related job experience, or an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science or other related field, or three years clerical experience.
