Job Description

Summary

This job involves handling day-to-day accounting tasks like tracking money owed to and from the organization, managing payments, and ensuring all financial records are accurate and up-to-date at a military base in Texas.

It's a support role where you'll review documents, fix errors, and keep ledgers balanced according to rules.

A good fit would be someone with practical experience in basic accounting who pays close attention to details and works well in a structured government environment.

Key Requirements

  • Work experience in accounting support duties, such as maintaining records for accounts receivable, payable, collections, payments, income, liabilities, payroll, assets, and equipment
  • Ability to ensure accuracy and timeliness of accounting documents from assigned activities
  • Skills in processing transactions to match predetermined control tables
  • Experience analyzing reports and listings for balance, format, validity, and adherence to regulations
  • Proficiency in classifying errors and referring complex issues to accountants
  • At least 9 semester hours of accounting coursework (highly preferred; transcripts required)
  • At least 3 years of NAF (Non-Appropriated Fund) accounting experience (highly preferred)

Full Job Description

This position is located at DFAS- Texarkana, Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, Texas. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Work experience performing accounting support duties as described above.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": At least 9 semester hours of accounting.

Transcripts must be uploaded at time of application. At least 3 years of NAF accounting experience. Experience must be reflected on resume to receive credit. Major Duties:

  • Maintain accounting records/subsidiary ledgers for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, collections, payments, income, liabilities, payroll, assets, and equipment.
  • Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of accounting documents submitted by assigned activities.
  • Determines that all transactions are properly processed, and that total activity agrees with predetermined control tables.
  • Analyses and reviews report and machine listing to assure they are in balance and in proper format and sort sequence, that accounting data is valid and that it adheres to prescribed regulatory manuals and procedures.
  • Classifies erroneous conditions referring complex errors/problems to the accountant.
