Requirements to Qualify
Completed 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting, including a course in Advanced Accounting, Cost Accounting, Governmental Accounting, Auditing, or Accounting Information Systems in an accredited college or university.
AND
One year of accounting clerical experience*
Graduation from an accredited two-year college with an Associate's degree in Accounting or a closely related field** may be substituted for one year of accounting clerical experience*.
NOTE: Lower-level accounting classes may be taken at a two-year community college if the units are transferable to a four-year college or university.
Special Requirements Information
Applicants are required to submit a photocopy of their official transcripts*** with the application.
**"Closely related" refers to fields that focus on core accounting practices, including but not limited to Finance and Auditing. The field must also cover the principles and practices of accounting.
For degrees that do not explicitly align with these fields, we will review and confirm whether the degree is closely related on a case-by-case basis.
We may evaluate the school and its curriculum to determine whether the degree meets the necessary accounting-related criteria.
***An official transcript is a transcript that bears the college seal and states "official and/or copy" issued by the school's Registrar's Office.
A "printout" of the transcript from the institution's website is NOT considered official and, therefore, cannot be accepted, which could lead to your application being rejected.
What can you do if you do not attach the documents at the time of filing?
To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of your official transcript from an accredited institution within seven (7) days of the end of the filing period.
The document should show the date the degree was conferred, number of units and the type of unit system used (e.g., semester, quarter) and be in English.
If not in English, then translation is required. International degrees must be evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards and indicate the number of units and unit system.

Applicants must meet the Requirements and receive a passing score of 70% or higher on each test part to be placed on the eligible list.
Transfer of Test Components
If you have taken identical components recently for other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.
Eligibility and Vacancy Information
Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months. We will use the list to fill vacancies throughout Los Angeles County as they occur.
