Full Job Description

Who May Apply: Open to United States Citizens. These are NOT remote position(s). Pay for first time hires to the Federal Govt will typically be set at step 1 salary for their respective grade level.

Position Location: Limestone, Maine This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related), in addition to meeting Office of Personnel Management (OPM) minimum qualification requirements.

Substitution of combination of education and experience must still, in conjunction, minimally satisfy the DHA qualification requirement.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service (GS-05), which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-06 Specialized Experience Is Defined As: Applying knowledge of accounting systems, policies and procedures for the examination, verification and maintenance of accounts and accounting data; validating, monitoring and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; researching discrepancies and making adjustments.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Perform accounting work which involves processing vouchers; checking and assigning appropriation codes. Maintain, balance, and reconcile general ledger accounts, according to applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Update pay or accounting systems; maintaining ledgers; processing pay actions; or performing debt collection. Verify accuracy of accounting data to ensure sufficient funds have been obligated using applicable mathematical formulas.
  • Reconcile accounts having a variety of transactions (e.g., purchase orders, contracts, travel orders, et cetera) to research document discrepancies and make necessary adjustments in the subsidiary and general ledgers.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews through the extraction of data from multiple system sources to audit data in the general or subsidiary ledger or to validate compliance with policy, regulation and procedures.
  • Assists in implementing and maintaining Internal Control Program requirements to protect against waste, fraud, and abuse.
  • Review complex documents to verify accounting data and mathematical accuracy to determine necessary accounting transactions before entering data into accounting systems.
