This job involves handling everyday financial tasks for the Iowa Secretary of State's office, such as processing bills, tracking payments, issuing refunds, and keeping accurate records of money matters.
It also includes helping with financial checks, preparing documents for audits, and answering questions about finances from inside and outside the office.
A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with experience in basic accounting who enjoys working closely with a team in a government setting and can handle sensitive information responsibly.
The Office of the Iowa Secretary of State (SOS) has three primary areas of responsibility:
1) Elections & Voter Registration,
2) Business Services, and
3) Safe at Home.
The Elections Division provides oversight on election administration and voter registration duties conducted by county elections officials.
The Business Services Division accepts filings related to business entities, notaries, and other related filings.
Safe at Home is an address confidentiality program for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, assault, trafficking, and stalking.
In addition to these three functional areas, the SOS has financial, IT, and communications teams that provide support across the office.
The SOS is hiring for an Accounting Technician 2!
This position assists with the daily accounting processes and procedures for the Office of the Iowa Secretary of State.
Primary responsibilities of this position include processing invoices, maintaining payment and notice records for SOS charge accounts, issuing refunds, and managing outdated warrants in compliance with established state policies and procedures.
The position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, documenting communications related to financial transactions, and responding to internal and external inquiries as appropriate.
Additional responsibilities may include assisting with reconciliation activities, preparing and organizing documentation to support audits and financial reviews, and maintaining organized financial files and records.
The position works closely with the Director of Accounting and collaborates with other office staff to ensure consistent processes, accurate reporting, and efficient workflow.
Due to the sensitive and confidential nature of the financial information and official documents handled in this role, this position will be fully on-site.
