The purpose of this job is to maintain, monitor, reconcile, analyze, invoice and evaluate accounting records for reporting purposes including yearend.

Identifies areas that need corrections or adjustments and make the necessary entries, including procedures and internal controls.

Manages and reports information to other Governmental units (local, state) and the general public

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Develops and implements accounting and financial procedures and internal controls
  • Works with reconciling system of record data with sub-system data. Enters taxable value adjustments from the State of Michigan.
  • Supports the accounting team and cross-trains to help with multiple activities. Learns areas such as daily cash balancing and property tax collection.
  • Develops and implements accounting system modifications and changes
  • Maintains and reconciles accounts and journal entries
  • Develops, monitors, reviews, verifies, posts to the journal, reconciles, adjusts, approves and presents for audit the department or office accounts
  • Prepares estimates of receivables and payables during budget development
  • Prepares, analyzes, and estimates annual revenues, reimbursements, and disbursements; prepares or assists in budget development; monitors and reviews budget status
  • Prepares and reviews financial and cash reports and statements
  • Operates personal computer and other office equipment
  • Performs related work as required
This posting will be used to fill an opening in the City Treasurer. If you are not selected for this opening, you will remain on an eligible list for future consideration. This list is active for six (6) months.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field
--AND--
  • Two (2) years of professional accounting experience
--OR--
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
