This job is for a 911 Communications Officer who handles emergency calls and dispatches police, fire, and medical services to help keep the community safe.

Key Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history and drug screening
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Complete the CritiCall skills assessment, testing multitasking, data entry, and decision-making
  • Obtain or be eligible for required certifications, such as Basic Telecommunicator or EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch)
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Space is limited for this event and attendance will be offered by appointment only. To secure a preferred time, interested individuals should promptly submit their application online and return the Background Investigation Booklet. Appointments will be scheduled at 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.

The Communications Officer Open House and Hiring Event offers a behind-the-scenes look at a fast-paced, meaningful career supporting law enforcement, fire, and EMS response.

This is a special opportunity to get a unique, inside look at one of the most critical roles in public safety.

Attendees will tour the 911 Center, meet experienced dispatchers and supervisors, and see how emergency calls are handled in real time all while completing Phase I of the hiring process.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
  • Learn about training, schedules, and career advancement
  • Speak directly with current Communications Officers about their experiences
  • Complete the CritiCall skills assessment for Communications Officers
  • Observe live 911 operations and job-shadow Communications Officers
  • Participate in an oral panel interview

The Communications Division is responsible for answering both emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

Communications Officers provide a vital service to the community by contributing to the safety and welfare of their fellow residents.

They are the first point of contact in most emergency situations and can drastically affect the outcome of a potentially otherwise dire event.

Communications Officers are a lifeline to first responders and the community. The Communications Officer dispatches Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Units.

Due to the nature of the job, the center is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

APPLICATION AND HIRING PROCESS
  • Phase I: Applicants who successfully complete Phase I of the hiring process will be eligible to receive a conditional job offer in the days following the event.

  • Phase II: This phase will begin after the conditional job offer is accepted. Phase II includes the below components.

    The entire hiring process takes an average of 45 days to complete.extensive background checks including criminal history, driving history, reference checks, and employment verifications

  • medical/drug screening
  • psychological examination
SALARY
**$5000 hiring incentive for new hires**

$50,398.40 base salary plus two possible incentives:
  • $51,910.35 (includes 3% pay incentive for an Associate's degree) or
  • $53,422.30 (includes 6% pay incentive for a Bachelor's degree)
The grade for this position is B22(2).

Effective 04/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D;
  • Must be an U.S. Citizen for P.O.S.T. Communications Officer Certification;
  • Two years’ experience in a fast-paced business customer service or telecommunications environment;
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, nights, holidays and weekends;
  • A professional and calm demeanor, as this is a highly stressful, demanding, fast-paced job involving life and death situations;
  • A job simulation skills test will be administered to determine eligibility; and
  • Successful completion of both phases of the hiring process
