Full Job Description

2024 Boston Police Promotional Examinations - Promotional Review Application

Pursuant to Massachusetts General Law (MGL) Chapter 31, Section 22 the administrator shall determine the form of a request for review. "Multiple Choice Item Reviews" and "Fair Test Reviews" will be reviewed if received no later than 7 days after the date of the examination. A "Fair Test Review" is conducted when an applicant requests Human Resource Division (HRD) to conduct a review of the fairness of a test. An "Essay Review" will be reviewed if received no later than 17 days after your score notice is received. Responses to all questions must be provided on this form with supporting documentation attached to this form.

Pursuant to Massachusetts General Law (MGL) Chapter 31, Section 24 the administrator shall determine the form of appeals and petitions. An "Experience and Education Review" (E&E) or "Experience, Certification, Training, and Education Review" (ECT&E) will be reviewed if received no later than 17 days after your score notice is received. Responses to all questions must be provided on this form with supporting documentation attached to this form.

Please note, Multiple Choice Item Reviews cannot be appealed to the Civil Service Commission. Pursuant to Section 24, "Fair Test Review" filed to HRD within 7 days of the examination may be appealed to the Civil Service Commission within 17 days of the issuance of HRD's decision.

For Multiple Choice Item Reviews: Attach a document that describes each question you want to have reviewed. For each question, state the specific allegation upon which your request for review is based and indicate the book or publication in support of your allegation. Also, provide the publication(s) title(s), author(s), edition(s), chapter(s), and page number(s), and provide a quotation of the specific portion of the book or publication which you are basing your allegation upon.

For Fair Test Reviews: Attach a document that specifies in detail why you believe this examination was not a fair test of the applicant's fitness to perform the primary or dominant duties of the position.

For Situational Judgement Test Item Reviews (if applicable): Attach a document that specifies in detail which scenario(s) you are referencing and why you believe you were unable to rate the effectiveness of the scenario presented.

For Essay Reviews: Attach a document that specifies in detail the essay you want to have reviewed. Include the specific allegation upon which your request for review is based and provide any documentation that would support the substance of your appeal. Please include the publication(s) title(s), author(s), edition(s), chapter(s), and page number(s), and provide a quotation of the specific portion of the book or publication which you are basing your appeal.

For E&E Reviews: Attach proper documentation that supports the claim(s) you want to have reviewed. Please use your Examination Preparation Guide for your respective examination to identify proper documents.

If you wish to submit multiple Requests for Review, you must submit a separate application for each type of review. For example, in order to request a review for both a multiple choice review and a fair test review, two separate submissions must be made within 7 days of the examination.
