The Food Service Working series, series code 7408, covers nonsupervisory federal jobs in food service. The work is serving food and drinks to people and preparing simple food.
The work can include waiting on tables and setting them where food service is informal, attending a food counter, portioning out food and serving it, and putting together meal trays for hospital patients. It can also involve recording and looking up patient diet details and other food service information, either on a computer or in a paper filing system. Workers wash dishes, glasses, silverware, pots and pans, and move food, supplies and equipment on hand carts or motorized carts.
Helping with food preparation is part of the series as well, such as peeling potatoes, cutting vegetables, making and tossing salads, weighing and measuring ingredients, making coffee and tea, and mixing fruit juices in bulk. Cleaning is normally included too, including mopping, sweeping, washing and buffing floors, and washing walls and ceilings.
