Air Force Global Strike Command is a major command within the Department of the Air Force. It is responsible for the service's nuclear forces, including land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles and strategic bomber aircraft, along with the systems used to command and control them.
The work centers on keeping those weapons systems operational and ready. That covers flying and maintaining bombers, operating and sustaining missile fields, guarding the installations and facilities where nuclear weapons are held, and planning and training for strike missions.
Alongside uniformed Airmen, the command employs federal civilians. Common civilian occupations include aircraft and missile maintenance, engineering, logistics and supply, security, intelligence analysis, information technology, contracting, budget and finance, and human resources and administrative support.
