Air Mobility Command is a major command within the Department of the Air Force. Its work is air mobility: airlift, air refueling and aeromedical evacuation, which means moving people, cargo and patients by air.
Not every job at the command is funded the same way. Some are nonappropriated fund positions. These still count as federal employment, but the salaries are paid from money the Air Force generates itself rather than from funds appropriated by Congress. That money comes from the earnings of base clubs, bowling centers, golf courses and similar operations.
Nonappropriated fund jobs sit on the base services side of the organization. They staff facilities such as child development centers, youth and teen centers, base lodging, outdoor recreation and arts and crafts centers, so the openings tend to be in child care, youth programs, hospitality and recreation.
